The GreenEdge cycling team project was launched in January 2011 bu General Manager Shayne Bannan, during the Tour Down Under, with the intention of creating an Australian based team that could compete in the UCI World Tour. The first official announcement was the multi-year sponsorship agreement reached with SCOTT, followed by three years contract with Santini the main sponsor for the team's clothing.
The young talents Jack Bobridge, three times world champion on the track, Cameron Meyer, five times world champion on the track, and Travis Meyer, australian road champion in 2011, were the first riders to be put under contract. The experienced Australian champions Stuart O'Grady, Robbie McEwen and Simon Gerrans followed as well as some undisputed talents as Matthew Goss, Luke Durbridge and Leigh Howard. The team, for the majority made of Australian riders, gathers also young talents from all over the world.
On December 6th,2011 the International Cycling Union gives the team UCI ProTour license, which ensures Greenegde the participation in the races of the UCI World Tour. The Greenegde project also includes a junior squad lead by the ex Australian rider Will Walker and a female team managed by GreenEDGE and the Australian Institute of Sport.
Santini's collaboration with Greenedge started naturally from the long and fruitful collaboration of the brand with the Australian national team but most of all because the brand and the team share the same values and objectives. Passion, hard work and team spirit.
"We chose to be a partner in this project because Greenedge lives cycling as I did back in my cycling day and how I think cycling should be experienced. With mind, legs and heart. "
